About this site

BestCoffeeBeanSite.com is a reference for coffee origins and varieties, built around a single argument: almost every number attached to a coffee is published without the basis that makes it mean anything.

What the site holds

Two kinds of record. An origin is a producing country, region or appellation, and it carries its altitude band, its harvest windows, its export grade standard, the way its local price is quoted, and what that price refers to. A variety is a name printed on a bag, and it carries what kind of thing that name actually refers to, its lineage group, whether any lot sold under it has been genetically verified, and how it behaves agronomically.

Both kinds of record carry a source, a source type, and a date it was last checked.

Why the basis matters more than the number

On one day in August 2026 the arabica C market closed near $3.08 a pound. A Cup of Excellence lot in Costa Rica sold for $200.10 a pound. A specialty auction lot in Dubai reached $4,546. All three are real, correctly reported figures for coffee, and no two of them are comparable to each other.

The same problem runs through grading, scoring and harvest. Kenya’s AA is a screen size and not a cup score. Colombia’s Supremo is a preparation inside the Excelso standard rather than a grade above it. A score of 88 means nothing until you know which of three live cupping protocols produced it. A country does not have a harvest season, because harvest is per region, per altitude band and per crop.

None of that is obscure. It is simply absent from most of what is written about coffee in English, and once you start recording it properly you cannot write a simple comparison table any more. That is the site.

What the site is not

It is not a roasterie, a shop, or a review site. It does not rank coffees against each other, because most of the numbers people would rank on were produced by different instruments. It does not publish live pricing, because we cannot verify a live price and a stale one presented as current is worse than none.

Blanks are deliberate

Where no source we would be willing to cite has published a figure, the field is empty and labelled as not published. We do not fill it in from a neighbouring region, a similar variety, or a retailer’s copy. A record that reads as incomplete and is honest is worth more than one that reads as complete and is partly invented, and every record shows how many of its key fields are actually held.

Corrections are welcome and taken seriously. If a figure here is wrong, tell us which one and where you are reading otherwise.
